Badia Prataglia

Located in the national park of Foreste Casentinesi, the community of Badia Prataglia has an essentially modern appearance. At the centre of the community is the parish church dedicated to SS. Assunta and S. Bartolomeo, the only remaining evidence of the Abbey of Prataglia, founded in around 986 by the Benedectine Cassinese monks when they came to Tuscany.

The present-day church has a very simple facade, while the inside is in a single nave, crowned by kingpost trusses, with a semi-circular apse. Badia Prataglia has historically been the centre of the Casentinese culture of woodworking: throughout the centuries, the community has traditionally taken full advantage of its surroundeng forest.
