Murlo

An ancient medieval village, it stands in the region of the Metallifere hills, on a hill hat dominates the Crevole River in the valley of the Merse and Ombrone Rivers. Worth a visit are the medieval walls, the churches and homes. Equally, there are numerous references to the Etruscan civilization, as demonstrated by the many archaelogical relics found in this area and conserved in the Municipal Archaelogical Museum of Murlo.

Nearby there are the ruins of the San Galgano Abbey, the most important Cistercian monastic complex in Italy. According to legend, Galgano Guidotti , a noble knight of Chiusdino, erected a chapel on Monte Siepi in 1180 after embracing Christianity.
