San Marcello is the most important town of the Pisoiese Mountains. Surrounded by pastures and pine wood, it dominates the valley of Limestre, near the opening of the Upper Valle del Lima. An ideal satrting point for walks along the trails of hiking paths, it is a favourite summer and winter holiday destination thanks to its proximity to the skiing centre of Abetone. A town of roman origins, in medieval times it was a fiefdom of Guido Guerra and was the object of conflict with the seigniory of Castracani (14th century).
