A well known seafront resort of the Maremma Riviera, it is, along with Riva del Sole and Punta Ala, the best cared for and developed tourist destinations in the province of Grosseto. It is built on 3 levels: the oldest part dates to medieval times and clings to the spurs of Poggio Petriccio, while a modern beachfront resort has developed at the mouth of the Bruna River and the right of the port-canal, which overlloks a wide and long sandy bank that slopes softly to the sea. Castiglione Castello is the oldest portion of the medieval complex, located in the city walls, constructed with bastions and towers. with its cobblestone lanes surmounted by arches, vaults and covered passageways, the city makes for a fascinating visit. The town is dominated by the beautifully-preserved Aragon citadel (14th-15th century) which affords a fabulous vista of the breathtaking surroundings.
