A sugegstive hamlet with a medieval layout, Capalbio is located on a hill surrounded by dense woods and dominates the coastal lake of Burano and a paradise of animal life. Some points of interest are the Porta Senese, the Palazzo Collacchioni (emerging on the remains of the primitive Aldobrandeschi citadel), the frescoed parish church of San Nicola and, outside the town, the parish church of Provvidenza, with frescoes by artists of the Pinturicchio school. 

Since the 1980s, Capalbio has enjoyed a reputation for being elected by many politicians and intellectuals as a refuge on the crowded coastline.
