A locality at the gates of Florence, Fiesole stands on a hill covered by homes and residences in the tranquil green of the cypresses and olive groves, commanding a spectacular panorama over the florentine basin between the Arno and Mugnone Rivers. An ancient Etruscan settlement which was founded between the 7th and 6th century BC, it was invaded by the Gauls in the 3rd cenury BC and lent a hand to the Romans during the Punic wars.

At the time of the civil war, a colony of veterans from Silla was created, which developed the Roman city of Faesulae. it fell to the barbarians and passed under Goth dominion in the 5th century. After this, it was governed by the bishops until it eas conquered by the Florentines (1125).
