Certaldo
A well-known town of the Val d'Elsa, located near the confluence of the Agliana and Elsa rivers, it has a bipolar city layout: a modern and industrial side in the flatlands, called the Borgo, and the historic section, enclosed in the city walls, which gives a home to the castle on the hill. Of Etruscan and Roman origins, it is famous for being the birthplace of Boccaccio, who died here in 1375.
